Tome Onzième / Volume XI, containing Voltaire's celebrated and controversial satirical poem La Pucelle d'Orléans.

A wonderful 240+ year-old survivor with exceptional Old World character. The volume retains its period leather binding with gilt spine decoration and title compartment, along with beautifully marbled endpapers.

An old Maison Française, 411 West 117th St., book label is present on the inside cover, bearing the name Keith Barnes and inventory/catalog number 844.54. An earlier handwritten ownership inscription is also visible on the title page.

CONDITION:

Antique condition with substantial age-related wear. Leather binding is heavily rubbed and worn, with losses to the spine and edges. One board is separating/detached or substantially weakened at the hinge, as photographed. Edge wear, scuffing, losses and other evidence of its more than two centuries of age are present.

Interior pages show expected age toning and occasional spotting/marks. Please examine all photographs carefully for condition. Sold as an antique book in its present condition.

Despite the binding wear, this is a striking and historically interesting example of an important 18th-century Voltaire edition, especially attractive for collectors of Enlightenment literature, French antiquarian books, early printing, and decorative antique books.
